Birth of the Underachiever’s Ascot

Once upon a time in a land so similar to yours you may as well call it home, life was different for men-they wore ties (and suits), but like all the time.  White collar life was tough, yet the crew neck undershirt got guys though it. But then something happened, restrictions eased, and the ties-what ever happened to those ties?  Well, they came off. Since buttons coming undone was naturally next, the V-neck t shirt was created so that man could continue having a stream lined dignified look even while casual, so there would be no disturbance in the force. But some men were too lazy to make the switch, they insisted the world would prefer to see their mangled greyish-white underpinnings and thus the underachievers ascot was born.

Your lesson: Do not disturb the force. If you prefer an undershirt between you and your dress shirts sans ties, make it V neck. And if it’s white, make sure it’s still white. If not, time for a new one.

I agree with one exception: in the case where the penultimate button is low enough to reveal chest hair. In such a case, a peek-a-boo crew neck may result in a cleaner look.

Good point, and there’s a solution there too – not all dress shirts have their buttons in the same place. Some have the penultimate button higher up for just such reason.
